3 Ingredient DIY Household Cleaner

Not too long ago, I shared a post about the household cleaners that are worth the extra cost.  What I didn’t mention is that when my husband and I were paying off our student loans we didn’t buy ANY of these. We had exactly ONE cleaner, and this DIY household cleaner cost us pennies. Actually, it was free for over a year. For whatever reason, when we moved into our duplex rental, there were three gallon jugs of white vinegar. I’d heard that vinegar could be used as a DIY household cleaner, but now I finally had the motivation to try. After all, if it worked, we’d have FREE cleaning products for who knew how long!

So….does it work?

Yep! Even in our new home with the extremely hard well water! I had purchased a glass cleaner from Method (conveniently NOT mentioned in my other household cleaners post) and it was horribly streaky in our bathrooms. So even today now that we are out of debt, we still use our diy household cleaner!

What’s the third ingredient?

You may have guessed by the photo, but citrus peels! I would take any citrus peels used for our cooking and would save them to make a batch of this. This gives the cleaner a better scent for use throughout your home. Don’t feel that these are necessary though!

How to Make 3 Ingredient DIY Household Cleaner

  • White Vinegar
  • Water
  • Citrus Peels

Soak leftover citrus peels in white vinegar. Remove the peels after a few days. Dilute in a spray bottle with a 2:1 ratio of water to the vinegar mixture. Use on household surfaces. Enjoy the pleasant scent and the knowledge that this cleaner is safe around kiddos and pets.
